The city of Kom Ombo is located about 210 kilometers south of Luxor and 40 kilometers north of Aswan. There, around 300 BC, there was a double temple, that is, ONE building, which was also consecrated to TWO gods (the crocodile god “Sobek” and the falcon god “Horus”). This makes this temple a special case in Egyptian history. In a side building of the temple one can still admire mummified crocodiles today.
The estimated visit time is two hours.
Distance from Luxor (return trip from Luxor including stay):
Road: 9,5 hours, Schiff: 1 day
Note: For a day trip on the road, Kom-Ombo is actually too far from Luxor. It is a good 420 km. If you book our 3-day trip to Aswan (preferably during a Nile cruise) instead of the Temple of Kom Ombo you can visit the temples of Edfu and Esna and enjoy the sights of Aswan.
