Three kilometers south of the rock tombs stands the Mausoleum of Aga Khan, a building erected from Aswan granite for the leader of an Islamic faith group who died in 1957. The house of his widow leaves a red rose to the snow-white marble rack every day.
The mausoleum can be reached by car from the east bank, but this means either a longer route over the dam in the south or the use of a special ferry in the north of Assuans. We recommend a boat trip in Aswan across the Nile. Use of this boat trip can take about 2 hours for the excursion from Aswan.
